The first generation of the Cervelo R3 was released in 2008. It had a quite aggressive geometry and was a pure race bike. It had severe durability issues, where the main problem was the alloy bottom bracket shell coming loose from the frame. The second generation was released in 2013. Cervelo reworked the geometry ("Race Fit"), and the R3 became more of an endurance bike. Most notably, the stack increased. Also, it had the BBRight press fit bottom bracket system, which meant that no bottom bracket shell could come loose. Unfortunately, the production tolerances were not great, which often lead to creaking and premature bearing wear. The R3 in this geometry chart is the third generation, released in 2018. Initially, both a rim brake and disc brake model was available. The rim brake frame was on the market through 2020. The disc version is still in Cervelo's product range as of 2021.
